Stroudsburg brothers arrested, accused of attacking officers at Capitol on Jan. 6

Two brothers from Stroudsburg have been charged in connection with the Jan. 6, 2021, riot at the U.S. Capitol.

Twenty-six-year-old Andrew Valentin was arrested Sunday in South Whitehall Township, Lehigh County, and 31-year-old Matthew Valentin was arrested Monday in Wilkes-Barre, the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the District of Columbia said in a Tuesday news release.

According to a criminal complaint, they are charged with entering and remaining in a restricted building or grounds; disorderly and disruptive conduct in a restricted building or grounds; act of physical violence in the Capitol buildings or grounds; assaulting, resisting, or impeding certain officers; and civil disorder.

Open-source images show the brothers climbing a media tower on the Capitol grounds and pushing a bike rack into police officers, according to a criminal complaint written by a Pennsylvania State Police trooper assigned to the FBI Joint Terrorism Task Force.

“Open source video shows that Matthew Valentin reached his hand through the bike rack and grabbed a U.S. Capitol Police Officer,” the complaint says.
