Court documents show new details on deadly Pennsylvania truck stop shooting

BERKS COUNTY, Pa. (WHTM)– Court documents detail the moments that led up to a deadly Pennsylvania truck stop shooting that a Florida man is facing charges in Berks County.

According to the charges filed by State Police in Hamburg, Travis Pugh, 39, is accused of fatally shooting James Hilton, 40, at the Love’s Truck Stop, located at 3700 Upper Mountain Road in Upper Bern Township, early on the morning Friday, March 22.

Pugh currently faces charges of murder 1st degree, murder 3rd degree, possession of a firearm without a permit, aggravated assault, simple assault, two counts of recklessly endangering another person, tampering with evidence, disorderly conduct, and harassment.

The criminal complaint filed in Magisterial District Judge Andrea Book’s office details that Troopers got a report of someone shot around 2:40 a.m. When Troopers arrived on scene, the complaint stated that they saw Hilton on the ground in a pool of blood with a 9mm casing next to him.

State Police interviewed witnesses who reported that there was a verbal altercation between the two men that led to the shooting.
