Phillipsburg’s New Mayor Has Been Busy – Seven Takeaways from Piazza’s First 100 Days

PHILLIPSBURG, NJ – In his first 100 days as Mayor of Phillipsburg, Randy Piazza, Jr. presented a list of his accomplishments thus far before the town council on Wednesday, April 10, 2024.

“Snow, earthquakes, eclipses,” Piazza jokingly said to kickoff his mayor’s report.

Personnel – Human Resources

On a more serious note, Piazza addressed that his administration was able to “hire the first dedicated and credentialed human resources director in Phillipsburg’s history”. We are waiting on documents from the Town of Phillipsburg regarding the date of the job advertisement, date of hire and documents requests through an Open Public Records request.

“Rather than scatter the HR responsibilities among various departments, the town now has one individual to be able to deal adequately,” Piazza said.

To date, the new HR Director has drafted discipline and leave policies, as well as implemented exit interviews. They are nearly finished with all of the civil service database updates in order to eliminate years of backlog transactions and have even updated Phillipsburg’s personnel action forms. Additionally, they have completed comprehensive New Jersey Civil Service training with a focus on more advanced levels of civil service to be compliant with processes and practices.
