New Britain Police Officers Recognized for Saving Male Who Tried to Hill Himself in Peace Valley Park

NEW BRITAIN TOWNSHIP, PA—Two New Britain Township police officers were given a citation of commendation this week for their quick actions last month in saving a male who tried to kill himself in Peace Valley Park.

On Sept. 27, Officer Bryce O’Connor responded to Peace Valley Park for the report of someone who had cut himself. O’Connor searched the park where the subject was reported to have been seen and found him about one-quarter of a mile in the woods. When O’Connor found the male unresponsive and covered in blood, he applied a tourniquet to the subject’s arm to control the bleeding.

Officer Daniel Sacks then arrived and applied pressure to a puncture wound on the male’s neck. The two officers carried the subject uphill out of the woods to a paved trail where paramedics were waiting.

The commendation, which was presented at an Oct. 7 meeting of the New Britain Township Board of Supervisors meeting, said that without the quick effort of the two officers, the subject would have bled to death. “These officers were able to use their training, experience and don’t-quit attitude to stop the subject’s bleeding and quickly get him to medical care,” the commendation said.
