Over a dozen brands of whole bagged and baby carrots sold by Grimmway Farms in 18 states were recalled due to an E. Coli contamination.
The Center for Disease Control and Prevention has reported at least 39 cases of E. Coli 0121 infections across 18 states, resulting in one death and 15 hospitalizations so far. One Pennsylvania resident has been reported ill and two from New Jersey.
Grimmway Farms recalled multiple brands of the bagged carrots and the products are likely no longer on store shelves but still may be in your home. Markets in Bucks County that carry some of the recalled organic carrot brands include Giant (Nature’s Promise), Target (Good & Gather), Redner’s (Grimmway Farms), Walmart (Marketside), Acme (O-Organics), Whole Foods (365) and Wegmans and Trader Joe’s brands.
Organic whole carrots that were affected were available to purchase from Aug. 14 to Oct. 23, according to the CDC. They do not have best-if-used-by dates. However, the baby carrots do have best-if-used-by dates that range between Sept. 11 to Nov. 12 of this year.
