DOYLESTOWN, PA—A candlelight vigil will be held on Wednesday night outside the old courthouse in Doylestown as part of the Transgender Day of Remembrance.
The Doylestown event, which is being held by the local group the Rainbow Room, will honor the lives of transgender people who have died through violence over the last year. The vigil will be open to the public. People are asked to bring their own candles.

“Now more than ever,” a Rainbow Room post on Instagram said, “it is vital for people to show up for LGBTQ+ people. Bring a candle, a friend and abundant love to share during this impactful evening.”
The Transgender Day of Remembrance was started in 1999 to honor the memory of a transgender woman named Rita Hester who was killed in 1998. Hester was a visible member of the transgender community in Boston and worked on education around transgender issues.
The day is held every Nov. 20 to honor transgender people whose lives were lost to anti-transgender violence in the previous year and educate people about the violence affecting the transgender community.
