Plans for Route 512 warehouses, landfill expansion raise traffic and environmental concerns

The Lehigh Valley Planning Commission had some concerns with a proposal to build two warehouses on land straddling the border between Wind Gap and Plainfield Township.

The proposed Cubes at Wind Gap along Route 512 between Wind Gap and Pen Argyl was reviewed by the LVPC’s Comprehensive Planning Committee during Tuesday’s virtual meeting. Committee members voted to move a draft letter on the project to the full LVPC, which meets Thursday.

Other projects forwarded by the committee involve expansion of the Grand Central Sanitary Landfill in Plainfield and a proposed school on the site of the former Allentown State Hospital.

The Cubes project would consist of two buildings totaling 640,400 square feet. Developer CRG wants to put them on a single lot of an undeveloped 161-acre site that contains woods.

A draft letter by Regional Planner Joseph Dotta and Chief Community and Regional Planner Jillian Seitz said increased truck traffic trying to access nearby Route 33 could strain local roads.
