Pine Twp., Mercer County ( WJET/WFXP )– Pennsylvania State Police are investigating after a Pennsylvania couple was scammed out of $9,500 by at least two fraudsters pretending to be a lawyer and an injured relative.
According to PSP Mercer, the Grove City couple received a call the afternoon of February 21 from the fraudsters posing as a lawyer and their grandson, claiming he had been in a serious crash.
One arrested after pair of search warrants served in Chautauqua Co.
During the call, the two told the couple they’d be sending someone to their house to collect $9,500 from them in cash with an unknown person driving a red Chevrolet arriving shortly thereafter to pick up the money.
Once the money had been handed over, police said the scammers called back to tell them charges had increased and they wanted another $7,500.
