Allentown’s new trash hauler hiring dozens of employees to fulfill new city contract beginning in June

Allentown-based J.P. Mascaro and Sons, which is taking over the city’s trash hauling from Waste Management this June, is hiring around 60 new employees to help it fulfill the new contract.

According to a news release, it’s the largest municipal trash hauling contract in Pennsylvania.

Allentown late last year approved a new trash collection contract with J.P Mascaro & Sons that will cost the city $16 million in its first year and increase by 5% each consecutive year. The increase in cost — the city paid around $10 million in 2024 for trash collection services by comparison — means that the city plans to increase the trash free from the current $415 to $605 in 2025 and $740 in 2026…
