A prominent Allentown landlord sued the city Monday to force the mayor to clean up a homeless encampment near the landlord’s upscale apartment complexes.
Nat Hyman owns the four properties listed as plaintiffs in the lawsuit filed in Lehigh County Court. They were all former garment mills converted into a combined 276 apartments adjacent to the Jordan Park Greenway.
Hyman wants the city to remove a homeless encampment with 15 to 20 tents from the Jordan Park Greenway. The lawsuit accuses members of that camp of relieving themselves on Hyman’s property, stealing his water and electricity, and spreading garbage.
The lawsuit says a man from the camp broke into a vacant apartment on March 20 and refused to leave. Hyman said he’s invested millions of dollars redeveloping properties in the four-block stretch near the camp…
