When Mike Sewards first started working at 12 years old for his father John at Sewards Steak Shop in Allentown, he managed the soda bottles, keeping them in the basement before the soda man picked them up for reuse.
“We’d have a whole basement full of soda bottles,” he said. “I think it was a nickel on a big bottle. I can’t remember the price … a nickel on a big bottle, maybe a couple of cents in a small bottle.”
Sewards became the new owner after he purchased the shop from his father in 1980. Now, roughly 45 years later, he wants to keep the shop and its cheesesteaks alive with a new owner…
