In the not-too-distant future, visitors going to downtown Allentown on Hamilton Street will pass through a gateway arch just before being greeted by the replica of a historic sculpture that captures a scene out of Greek mythology.
As part of the effort to spruce up the streets in the downtown, Psyche and Eros will once again reside on the 900 block of Hamilton. The original work was in the foyer of the former Rialto Theater that stood at 943 Hamilton from 1921 until its demolition in 1986.
In a presentation Wednesday to the Allentown Neighborhood Improvement Zone Development Authority, state Revenue Secretary Pat Browne gave a presentation on the history of the city’s theater scene in the early 20th century.
