Pa. State Senate unanimously passes bill to open Allentown NIZ tax records

A bill to give independent auditors access to tax information from Allentown’s Neighborhood Improvement Zone passed the state Senate unanimously Monday.

Senate Bill 367 was introduced by state Sen. Jarrett Coleman, R-Lehigh, and co-sponsored by Sen. Nick Miller, D-Lehigh. Since he took office in January 2023, Coleman has been trying to open the books on the city’s unique tax subsidy zone along Hamilton Street and the Lehigh riverfront.

“Since taking office two and a half years ago, I’ve been fighting for more transparency and accountability from the NIZ, and I think real progress that serves the public interest is being made,” Coleman said. “I appreciate that my Democratic colleague, Sen. Miller, shares this goal, and I am hopeful our bipartisan approach will succeed in getting this bill to the governor.”…
