When I sat down to write this column the sun had come out, and it was good to see it. We were in a drought situation for so long that I don’t want to complain about all the rain we’ve recently gotten. But it was sure nice to see the sun if only for a short while.
The rain has caused garden plants to get really big. Monarda, or bee balm, plants in my front garden are more than 5 feet tall. I can’t see the bird feeders behind them and soon they’ll be even bigger when their blossoms open up, which is normally the last week of June.
Last week was National Pollinator Week, something I’m guessing most people weren’t aware of. A pollinator is any animal, which includes insects, that carries pollen from one flower to another. Without pollination, we’d have no food…
