The Pennsylvania Black Fly Suppression Program is due to visit Lehigh Valley waterways on Wednesday, officials announced.
The Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection aerial campaign targets black flies, or biting gnats, according to a news release from Northampton County.
Helicopter flights that are part of the operation are scheduled to begin after 8 a.m. at Washington’s Crossing and include passes over sections of local waterways described as follows:
- Delaware River: Between Slateford in Northampton County and the area near Trenton, New Jersey, and Yardley, Bucks County.
- Lehigh River: Between the confluence with the Delaware River and Allentown.
- Tohickon Creek: Between Point Pleasant and Route 611.
