Norristown teen charged in shooting loses bid for juvenile court

NORRISTOWN — A Norristown teenager accused of firing gunshots at a vehicle occupied by several others with whom he had an encounter on a borough street has lost his bid to transfer his case to juvenile court.

The assault- and gun-related charges filed against Alexander Ortiz, who was 17 at the time of the alleged shooting, will remain in adult court, Montgomery County Judge William R. Carpenter ruled after holding a decertification hearing on Ortiz’s request.

Ortiz, who turned 18 on May 2, faces charges of aggravated assault, possession of a weapon, recklessly endangering other persons, possession of a firearm by a minor, and carrying a firearm without a license in connection with the alleged 9:30 p.m. Feb. 17, 2025, shooting in the 600 block of Sandy Street…
