Pennsylvania troopers catch scammer red handed; placed in Clearfield County Jail

CLEARFIELD COUNTY, Pa. (WTAJ) — An accused scammer was caught red-handed when he allegedly attempted to defraud a Clearfield County woman a second time. troopers report.

Elvys Nicanor Nunez Valerio, 32, of Perth Amboy, NJ, was charged with theft, receiving stolen property and criminal use of a communications facility — eight felonies total — after state police in Clearfield were contacted July 12.

According to the criminal complaint, Valerio allegedly called an 85-year-old Clearfield County woman and told her that her daughter was in an accident. According to the victim, Valerio claimed her daughter had broken teeth and a cut lip, making it hard to talk. He then allegedly claimed the other person in the crash was in critical condition at UPMC Altoona…
