A man who authorities say was under the influence of heroin when his toddler son ingested a fatal dose of fentanyl in Allentown was sent to state prison Monday.
Both parents of 22-month-old Johansy Suarez-Rivas have now been sentenced to state prison for failing to prevent the boy from finding and ingesting the drug that killed him, according to a news release Monday from Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan.
Jayleen Rivas-Rodriguez, 37, left Johansy in the care of his father, 34-year-old Jorge Suarez-Santiago of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, on the day Johansy died, the news release says. It says both parents were under the influence of heroin in the hours before the boy died on April 5, 2021.
