Pa. police officer charged with assault of suspect who was surrendering peacefully

An Allentown police officer knew a fleeing suspect was unarmed and surrendering peacefully when he attacked him with his department-issued firearm, authorities said.

Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin P. Holihan and Allentown Police Chief Charles Roca announced the charges Thursday afternoon in a news conference against city police Patrolman Abviud Carvajal.
