Allentown homeless camp evacuation in 11 days. Here’s the emergency plan just announced.

The United Way of the Greater Lehigh Valley and River Crossing YMCA announced plans to open a warming station ahead of schedule to accommodate residents of the Allentown’s Jordan Creek homeless encampment, who face evacuation on Aug. 25.

The warming station at the Allentown YMCA branch will open by Sept. 30, nearly two months earlier than its typical mid-November start date. The facility, which usually operates through mid-April, provides daily shelter, food, and essential services to those experiencing homelessness.

“We are pleased to provide a short-term solution for shelter by opening the Warming Station nearly two months ahead of schedule,” River Crossing YMCA President and CEO Zane Moore said in a statement on Thursday…
