BETHLEHEM, Pa. – In Bethlehem’s Payrow Plaza, the Ukrainian national anthem was played as its flag was raised outside of city hall ahead of the country’s 34th Independence Day this Sunday.
“Ukraine declared independence from the Soviet Union in 1991 and we see that independence being seriously threatened for the past four years, actually since 2014 when Russia invaded the Crimea and Donbas region of Ukraine,” said Father Richard Jendras.
The ceremony comes exactly one week after President Trump met with Russian President Vladimir Putin. Father Richard Jendras said he did not think anything would come of the meeting.
He said he does not think Putin is serious about peace.
