Police ID pilot who died in plane crash at Hudson Valley airport

WALLKILL — One person died when a small airplane crashed at an airport in Ulster County on Saturday.

The pilot, who has not yet been identified, was the only person on board, according to a news release from State Police. The pilot was found dead at the scene.

The Glasair Super II FT, single-engine airplane crashed during takeoff at the privately-owned Kobelt Airport in the hamlet of Wallkill around 2:25 p.m. Saturday. The crash sparked a brush fire, prompting multiple fire departments to respond.
