Grand jury finds widespread illegal THC sales in smoke shops

A grand jury in Montgomery County uncovers what officials are calling a “public health crisis” driven by unregulated smoke shops across the region, including Bucks County. The investigation — coordinated by Montgomery County District Attorney Kevin Steele, Bucks County DA Jennifer Schorn, and other law enforcement agencies — discovered nearly 94% of THC products purchased undercover exceeded legal limits. The probe that provided key information to the grand jury revealed that local retailers were selling marijuana and high-grade THC vapes and edibles made to look like legal “hemp” products, often without age checks. Bucks County detectives participated in the probe and have seized thousands of THC vapes from area schools. Bucks County D.A. Jennifer Schorn described the industry’s loopholes as a “clear and present public health threat,” calling for new state laws to regulate sales, require testing, and impose age limits.
