Do all robins fly south for winter? Plus, a skull mystery | Lehigh Valley Nature Watch

Now that most of the leaves on the trees and shrubs in the yard have fallen, I can once again see vehicles on the road out front. And I can also see a lot of the wooded hillside across the road, although already it’s gotten mostly bare or yellow. Fall’s beauty didn’t seem to last long this year.

Recently it’s gotten colder so finally I’m seeing flocks of American robins all over the property. These flocks almost always show up around this time every year, although not all of them will be moving any further south.

Unlike what many people think, not all robins migrate south for the winter. Some of them actually stay on their northern breeding grounds if there are berries and fruit for them to eat as replacements for the insects and worms they normally eat…
