BLOOMSBURY BOROUGH, N.J. (Hunterdon County) — A Hunterdon County doctor has been charged with unlawfully prescribing Adderall and Xanax to patients outside the usual course of professional practice, Acting U.S. Attorney and Special Attorney Alina Habba announced.
David Holbrook, 70, of Bloomsbury, was arrested Nov. 4, and charged in a federal indictment with nine counts of unlawfully distributing and dispensing controlled substances. Each count carries a statutory maximum penalty of 20 years in prison and a $1 million fine. Holbrook, a licensed psychiatrist, appeared the same day in federal court before U.S. Magistrate Judge André M. Espinosa for his initial appearance and arraignment and was released on a $100,000 unsecured bond.
According to court documents and statements made in court, prosecutors allege that on nine occasions between January 2021 and September 2022, Holbrook prescribed Adderall, a Schedule II controlled substance, and Xanax, a Schedule IV controlled substance, to multiple patients without a legitimate medical purpose and outside the professional standards required for prescribing such medications…
