Less draconian LANTA route changes coming; fare hike could be next

ALLENTOWN, Pa.- Service cuts that LANTA has been foreshadowing for months will soon become reality. Fare hikes may not be far behind.

On Tuesday, the transit agency’s board voted to approve route changes that will take effect in January of 2026. But they won’t be nearly as drastic as what was originally proposed.

LANTA first raised the possibility of enacting deep cuts in May, when it unveiled a draft budget for its next fiscal year, which began on July 1 of this year. The agency said it was facing an “annual recurring unfunded deficit” of about $8 million on its bus system, and an additional $3 million for its Shared Ride for Seniors program…
