According to a Union-Bulletin report, the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) has stepped in for an extensive investigation, which could take months, with the focus likely shifting between PECO, the energy company, and Saber Healthcare Group, who recently acquired the nursing home.
Following the incident, which resulted in the death of two women including 52-year-old staff member Muthoni Nduthu, and injuries to 20 others, PECO has faced scrutiny over its initial response time and the events that unfolded prior to the explosion. Although PECO initially claimed their crew arrived minutes before the blast, they later stated that technicians had been on site a few hours prior, as reported by phillyburbs.com.
