WHITEHALL TOWNSHIP, LEHIGH COUNTY (WBRE/WYOU) — Officials say a man was sentenced Friday for stealing almost $600,000 in gold and around $91,000 in cash from a 74-year-old man in Lehigh County.
Lehigh County District Attorney Gavin Holihan announced on Friday in a release that Hirtik Khatri of Lawrence Township, New Jersey, 25, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to serve one to three years in prison, two years of probation, and pay $688,372 in restitution for stealing from a Whitehall Township man.
Khatri’s theft was via a long-term scam regarding an alleged fraudulent PayPal charge, which the victim was told he would need to repay with cryptocurrency, gold, or cash, District Attorney Holihan explained.
