A rosy sunrise, hungry birds before dawn and the promise that winter will eventually end | Lehigh Valley Nature Watch

One morning this past week, the sunrise on the eastern end of the valley was a beautiful rose color that seemed to bounce up and off the landscape of snow. It didn’t last long because clouds began moving across the sky, but it was memorable while it lasted.

The millet/cracked corn area in the front yard was already covered with birds even though you could hardly see them. Juncos, especially, come out to feed before it’s even light out.

There were lots of juncos and other sparrows at one spot where we’ve been seeing an eastern cottontail rabbit eating millet at night. It usually doesn’t come out until around 10 p.m., but I’ve seen it still there after midnight…
