Urgent Winter Message Issued for 3 Counties in Pennsylvania and New Jersey

The National Weather Service (NWS) in Mount Holly has issued a Winter Weather Advisory for Sussex County in New Jersey and Carbon and Monroe counties in Pennsylvania, warning residents to prepare for hazardous travel conditions from Thursday evening through Friday morning.

According to the advisory, the alert will be in effect from 7 p.m. Thursday until noon EST Friday, as a system bringing mixed precipitation moves across the region. Forecasters expect a combination of snow, sleet, and freezing rain that could create slick roads and dangerous travel conditions during the Friday morning commute.

The NWS projects total snow and sleet accumulations of up to one inch, along with ice accumulations of around two-tenths of an inch. While snowfall totals may appear minor, even a light glaze of ice can significantly impact road safety, particularly on untreated surfaces, bridges, and overpasses.

The advisory covers the cities of Jim Thorpe and Stroudsburg in Pennsylvania, as well as Newton in New Jersey. Meteorologists emphasize that the greatest concern will be icy conditions developing overnight and persisting into mid-morning Friday.
