(NewsNation) — Two sheriffs with differing views on whether to cooperate with federal immigration officers agree on one thing: County police departments should be allowed to decide that issue for themselves.
Wicomico County, Maryland, Sheriff Michael Lewis no longer has that option. His governor, Democrat Wes Moore, earlier this month signed a law banning counties from entering into 287(g) agreements with ICE.
This nullified an arrangement Lewis had with ICE to honor the agency’s detainers on undocumented immigrants.
