Bridge over Saucon Creek getting replaced in project that will require 7.5-mile detour

A bridge replacement project is planned for Easton Road in Lower Saucon Township, with construction scheduled to begin in spring 2028 and conclude in fall 2028, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation says in a project overview.

The project, which will be the subject of a public hearing later this month, will replace the bridge carrying Easton Road (State Route 2006) over the East Branch of Saucon Creek in Northampton County. The existing structure, built in 1956, is nearing the end of its design life and cannot accommodate wide-turning vehicles from Ringhoffer Road, which intersects Easton Road just east of the creek.

The current bridge is a single-span, 34-foot-long rolled steel I-beam structure with an open grate steel deck and a curb-to-curb width of 32 feet. The replacement will be a single-cell precast concrete box culvert with a width of 42 feet, 1 3/8 inches and two 12-foot travel lanes. Sidewalks and bike lanes will not be included…
