Blue Mountain brush fire swells to 60 acres. Pa., National Park Service called into response.

Crews are battling a massive brush fire on Blue Mountain in Carbon County that has grown to upward of 60 acres, fire officials say.

Wesley Robinson, press secretary for the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources, told lehighvalleylive.com the fire was initially reported shortly before noon Sunday. It broke out near the Lehigh-Carbon County border west of Lehigh Gap, outside Palmerton.

The fire specifically is on the north face at the top of Blue Mountain. It sits along the Appalachian Trail, on the border between Washington Township, Lehigh County, and East Penn Township, Carbon County…
