Buford wins prestigious Director’s Cup after remarkable year in athletics

The 2025-26 school year will go down in Buford High School’s history as one of the most successful and memorable. All of the countless hours that its staff and athletes spent honing their skills paid off. Buford received notice that they won this year’s prestigious Director’s Cup for Class AAAAAA. It is Buford’s fourth time winning the award and the first one since the 2021-22 school year.

Presented annually by the Georgia Athletic Directors Association, the Director’s Cup recognizes the school with the highest cumulative athletic achievement in each classification. Schools earn points based on their teams’ finishes in state competition throughout the year, with separate honors also awarded to the top boys and girls athletic programs. Thanks to the points accumulated by several noteworthy performances this year, Buford had enough points to capture this year’s Director’s Cup.

Buford finished with 1,297 points, narrowly surpassing defending champion Walton, which totaled 1,266 points. West Forsyth (1,249), Carrollton (1,230) and North Gwinnett (1,228) rounded out the top five. Buford’s girls programs contributed 675 points, finishing second behind Walton’s 696.
