ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) — Because of an expired intergovernmental agreement (IGA) — and ongoing discussions for a new one — the Cobb County sheriff will deputize Cobb County police officers to respond to the calls in the City of Mableton.
County officials said the agreement between Cobb County and Mableton expired on Sunday. That agreement authorized the Cobb County Police Department to provide law enforcement services in Mableton.
Officials said the city and county reached an agreement on the “core terms” on May 22. However, the “city introduced a new demand requiring that certain state law misdemeanor citations be routed to Mableton City Court rather than Cobb County State Court, where such matters are currently adjudicated,” county officials said…
