AROUND TOWN: More parking coming to downtown Lawrenceville

One day it was an office building just off the downtown Lawrenceville square and a day later it was a pile of rubble. The building at the corner of West Crogran Street and Culver Street was razed to make room for more downtown parking. According to City Manager Chuck Warbington the half-acre corner lot is being morphed into 100 spaces — a needed addition to the city’s downtown parking inventory.

Another round of judicial nominating: You may recall that Gwinnett County State court Judge Veronica Cope recently got a promotion to Superior Court from Gov. Brian Kemp. Well, that has left a vacancy on the State Court bench that Kemp now has to fill in addition to filling a newly created seat on that same bench and nominations are due this week.

The Daily Post has learned that the state’s Judicial Nominating Commission has been accepting nominations to fill Cope’s seat on the State Court Bench as well as the new State Court seat created by House Bill 1057, which was signed into law earlier this year.
