Cherokee County adopts new rules for electric bikes

Cherokee County leaders have adopted a new code section to regulate the use of electric bikes, scooters and similar mobility devices in unincorporated Cherokee.

On Tuesday, the Cherokee County Board of Commissioners unanimously voted to create a new section in the Cherokee County Code of Ordinances regulating these uses. The ordinance went into effect immediately.

“Our goals for the ordinance are to provide clear, enforceable rules for this rapidly expanding type of device. We want to emphasize safety and consistency with state law, and protection of our trails,” Cherokee County Community Services Agency Director Bryan Reynolds said Tuesday. “We also want to make sure our law enforcement partners and the solicitor’s office have clear and enforceable standards for each device type and the permitted locations.”…
