Patient Records Heated Exchange With Physician Over Alleged Mockery During Exam
A routine physical in suburban Atlanta has exploded into one of the internet’s most argued-over medical confrontations. A patient known online as Lia filmed herself confronting Dr. John Y. Shih inside his Suwanee Family Physicians office. She accuses him of laughing with a nurse about her inability to produce a urine sample. The doctor denies it on camera. He then offers a string of brief apologies.

The footage blends the tense waiting-room exchange with tearful clips filmed from her car. Lia calls her treatment dismissive and labels it racist and discriminatory. That claim has split viewers sharply. Shih, a veteran board-certified family physician, has made no public statement. No investigation or disciplinary action has been reported.
What remains is a raw, unresolved clash over respect, privacy, and who controls the story once the camera rolls.
The Waiting-Room Ambush Caught on Camera
Lia doesn’t wait for an invitation. Planting herself in front of Shih at the front desk, she fires: “Are you talking about me?” His answer comes fast: “No, no, no.” The denial only fuels her. Is it funny, she demands, that she cannot give “seven drops of urine?” When he steps toward the camera, a sharp warning follows: don’t touch me.
Then comes the indictment. According to Lia, he never introduced himself during the exam. He questioned whether she understood her own diagnosis. He didn’t even know if her blood had been drawn. Worst of all, she claims, he later scoffed that he’d never heard of anyone failing such a simple test…
