The GBI is investigating an officer-involved shooting after Cobb Police say they shot a man who was discharging a gun on an east Cobb street along the Chattahoochee Tuesday night.
According to Officer Aaron Wilson, Cobb Police spokesperson, at about 10:15 p.m. Tuesday, Cobb patrol officers responded to multiple 911 calls reporting an armed man discharging a firearm while walking down Columns Drive, which runs along the Chattahoochee River near the Atlanta Country Club Estates and Chattahoochee Plantation neighborhoods.
Officers arriving at the scene engaged with the man, identified by the GBI as 83-year-old Thomas Yarborough of Marietta, near the front door of a house on Columns Drive.
Police gave repeated commands to Yarborough to drop the weapon, Wilson said.
The man disregarded commands to drop the weapon and continued discharging it, Wilson said, and an officer returned fire, striking the suspect.
The suspect was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital by ambulance in stable condition, Wilson told the MDJ. The GBI said Yarborough is in critical condition.
