Canada’s inaugural Copa America run begins against the defending World Cup and Copa America champions.
Canada are set to take on Argentina in the first match of Group A at the 2024 Copa America. The match will take place at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, in Atlanta, Ga. Canada will also take on Peru and Chile in Group A matches in Kansas City, Kan., and Orlando, Fla. respectively.
It will be another massive test for Les Rouges after a disappointing World Cup performance in 2022 in Qatar, where they lost all three of their group stage games. It’s the first chance for new coach Jesse Marsch to see his players as well ahead of the 2026 World Cup, which will be co-hosted by Canada.
In Canada’s first Copa America, they’ll likely be able to call on many of their stars playing across the pond and in MLS. Players like Alphonso Davies, Jonathan David, and Tajon Buchanan should all be available for selection and could give Argentina a shock in the opener.
