Woodstock Author Publishes Children’s Book

A Woodstock resident has recently published a children’s book that encourages kids to advocate for animals.

“Escape from the Mutt Motel,” written by Deann Benedict with illustrations by Walter Policelli, has been published by Mascot Books.

The Mutt Motel used to be a ritzy place, but it’s now a stinky, dirty, cobweb-filled spot where Weezy, Lucy, and Boomer wish nothing more than to go home the minute their paws pass through the door. When they realize things are not as they appear at the Mutt Motel, the trio find themselves in a fight against time. If they want to stay together, they must Escape from the Mutt Motel!

Through the book, the author hopes to inspire children to become advocates for their furry friends and instill in them a sense of responsibility and kindness toward all animals.

A portion of proceeds from the sale of the book benefits local animal charities. The current charity selected to benefit is Orphan Annie Rescue.

Deann Benedict grew up in Fayetteville and is a graduate from Kennesaw State University. She currently lives in Woodstock. Her life is centered around the love she has for her family, friends, and her beloved goddaughter, Charlee, whose valuable input was instrumental in bringing this book to life. Her deep affection for animals began at an early age, and her adored rescue schnauzer, Weezy, was the guiding force behind the creation of her debut children’s book, “Escape from the Mutt Motel.”
