Woman Convicted in SW Cherokee Stabbing

An Acworth-area woman has been convicted of stabbing a person at an apartment complex last year, the Cherokee County District Attorney’s Office announced.

On Oct. 3, a Cherokee County jury found Antawana Nitara Brantley, 48, guilty of family violence aggravated assault following a three-day jury trial.

Her sentencing is scheduled for Nov. 13.

Brantley was charged with family violence aggravated assault on Nov. 20, 2023, after the Cherokee Sheriff’s Office responded to 911 calls reporting a person had been stabbed at an apartment complex off Bells Ferry Road.

During the investigation, law enforcement determined that three people living in the same apartment engaged in a verbal argument that eventually became physical with Brantley attacking the victim, a relative, with a knife.

Before convicting Brantley, jurors listened to testimony from five witnesses including the victim and responding law enforcement officers. Jurors also saw photographs of the stab wounds to the victim and heard two 911 calls, including one from the defendant’s daughter who reported “my mom is stabbing my cousin.”
