Acworth Woman Accused of Shoplifting, Hit and Run

Lisa Dawn Rhodes, 53, of Acworth is accused of shoplifting $531.46 worth of groceries, household items and cat food on Oct. 8 at 3:30 p.m. at Publix, 3507 Baker Road in Acworth, according to an arrest warrant from the Acworth Police Department.

After loading the items in a 1996 Mercury Marquis Grand, Rhodes slid over into the driver’s seat from the passenger seat and sped out of the parking stall, almost striking an employee who was 20 weeks pregnant, according to the warrant.

The victim had to jump out of the way of the vehicle. Rhodes, who did not have a valid license and had an expired tag, almost struck another vehicle in the parking lot before crashing into the poles in front of the store and fleeing the scene on foot, according to the warrant.

Rhodes is charged with theft by shoplifting – greater than $500; aggravated assault weapon; reckless driving; driving while license is suspended or revoked; driving – expired tag; and driving – hit and run. She was arrested on Oct. 8 at 4:38 p.m. and booked into the Cobb County Adult Detention Center, according to jail records.
