Suwanee man arrested in Athens after arriving to collect items purchased fraudulently

A Gwinnett County man was arrested in Athens recently after a Henry County woman notified Athens-Clarke police that the suspect had fraudulently used her PayPal account for a purchase and had arrived at a UPS store to collect the merchandise.

Athens-Clarke police officer Robert Young responded about noon Dec. 11 to the call, but the suspect had already left the UPS store on Alps Road. However, using the suspect’s name Young discovered the man drove a blue BMW, according to the report released Monday.

The BMW was located near the store and the 19-year-old Suwanee man was placed in handcuffs for the investigation.

The officer reported he called the 43-year-old McDonough woman who said that after finding the fraudulent purchase of some computer equipment she contacted PayPal, then she found the merchandise was scheduled for delivery in Athens on this day.

She contacted the UPS store and when the suspect arrived, an employee contacted the woman and she in turn called police, according to the report.
