Metro Atlanta won’t see any snow, but the North Georgia mountains might get a wintry mix as the weekend comes to a close.
A low pressure system arriving from the Rockies will approach us Sunday, but it will primarily move just north of Georgia. As the winter storm heads eastward, the National Weather Service said Saturday morning “some light wintry mix is possible for a brief period of time early Sunday morning,” though accumulation is not likely.
The storm will mostly leave us with a cold rain Sunday afternoon and overnight into Monday morning.
There is potential for cooler air to move into the state behind the rain and catch up with the moisture Monday afternoon. That could lead to some wintry mix around the Blairsville area and in the mountains at about noon, Channel 2 Action News chief meteorologist Brad Nitz said.
“A bit of light wraparound sprinkles or a few snow flurries are possible across far north Georgia through Monday afternoon,” the NWS announced.
The potential for wintry mix is not surprising considering temperatures will be so low this weekend.
