Dunwoody Businesses Achieve 100% Compliance in Underage Alcohol Sales Sting Operation

In an effort to curb the access of alcohol to minors, the Dunwoody Police Department, in conjunction with agents from the Georgia Department of Revenue, conducted a sting operation targeting local businesses and their compliance with alcohol sales laws last Tuesday. As reported by the City of Dunwoody, none of the twenty establishments tested for selling alcohol to underage customers failed the test.

The establishments that passed the compliance test include a range of businesses, from grocery stores such as Publix and Kroger to gas stations like Exxon and BP, specialty stores like Total Wine and Perimeter Bottle Shop, and restaurants such as Iron Hill Brewery and Agave Bandido. These businesses upheld regulations to prevent underage drinking, demonstrating that compliance and regular checks can effectively support community efforts to protect young people from the risks of early alcohol consumption. Chief Carlson lauded the businesses for their adherence to the law, explaining that “Their commitment to responsible sales helps keep our community safe and prevents underage drinking,” according to the city’s news release.

Underage drinking remains a public health concern, with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention citing approximately 4,000 deaths annually among individuals below 21 due to excessive drinking.
