Cobb County sheriff’s deputy indicted for fraud after faking multiple sclerosis; allowed to resign days after arrest

COBB COUNTY, Ga. — A former Cobb County Sheriff’s Deputy has been indicted on multiple charges after allegedly defrauding individuals and organizations by falsely claiming he had multiple sclerosis and soliciting money through fundraising and gifts.

A Cobb County grand jury indicted Mark Ryan Hampton, 38, Thursday on charges of violation of oath by public officer and violation of the Racketeer Influenced and Corrupt Organizations (RICO) Act, according to District Attorney Sonya F. Allen.
