Weather Alert: Flood Watch issued for local area from Sunday morning through Monday evening

It may not seem like it now, but by the end of the weekend rain is expected in the local area, including Walton, Gwinnett and surrounding counties and it is not expected to just be a light shower. Storms and heavy rainfall are expected to begin late Sunday afternoon and continue almost unabated through Monday. As a result, the National Weather Service has issued a Flood Watch from Sunday morning through Monday evening.

According to the NWS, “Excessive runoff may result in flooding of rivers, creeks, streams, and other low-lying and flood-prone locations. Creeks and streams may rise out of their banks. Flooding may occur in poor drainage and urban areas.

“An approaching storm system will bring heavy rainfall and thunderstorms to portions of north and central Georgia on Sunday and Sunday Night. This system may stall over the state, bringing the potential for 2-4″ of rainfall across the Flood Watch area, with isolated amounts of up to 5” possible…
