ATLANTA — 11Alive is saddened to report that veteran reporter and beloved member of the 11Alive newsroom, Jon Shirek, has died after a battle with brain cancer.
Shirek had recently retired from the business a little more than a year ago.
Shirek graduated from the University of Florida in Gainesville getting his start as a journalist at The Independent Florida Alligator newspaper, WRUF-AM and WTLV-TV in Jacksonville. In 1980, he took a job with WXIA and dedicated more than 40 years of his life to the station until February 2024…
