Alpharetta, Georgia – Starting Monday morning, crews from the Georgia Department of Transportation will modify traffic patterns along State Route 9 near Mayfield Road. Starting at 8 a.m. on May 12, drivers will come across a sequence of five-day lane changes as workers pave driveway entrances on both sides of the highway. Weather and field conditions allowing, the changes are anticipated to continue until Friday, May 16.
Instead of totally shutting the road, the operation will progressively move vehicles between lanes to preserve a constant flow, the Georgia Department of Transportation said in a release. Early in the week, cars going in both directions will be forced into the left-hand lanes. Crews will move traffic into the right-hand lanes as paving progresses to make place for large equipment and reduce dangers for staff members and drivers.
Well in ahead of each shift, signs and cones will notify cars to safely guide them over the altered roadway. GDOT authorities underlined the need of paying attention to work-zone speed limitations and remaining aware of shifting lane markers.
